About the Golf Course

State Mines Country Club is a historic championship golf course in Brakpan, Gauteng, frequently referred to as the "hidden gem of the East Rand". Originally commissioned in 1909 by the State Mines Gold Mining Company, it transitioned from a private employee facility to a premier 18-hole public-access course.

Course Description The course is a par-72 parkland layout known for its exceptional conditioning and scenic isolation. Top 100 Golf Courses

Aesthetic: It is characterized by dense forests of towering bluegum trees that shield the course from surrounding mining activity, creating a tranquil "golfing oasis". Design: Redesigned by architect Rob O’Friel in the mid-1990s, the layout is well-balanced with a mix of challenging and reachable holes.

Greens & Fairways: The greens are planted with bent grass, while the fairways consist of Kikuyu grass. Difficulty: While described as forgiving off the tee, the course is rated as a "strong 72." Long par-3s (some over 175m) are balanced by reachable par-5s.
